I paint the things I notice in passing — the particular grey of a wall at five o'clock, the shape of a chair against a window. This is where those paintings live. Stay a while.

I paint slowly so that small things have room to become permanent — a passing light, a quiet corner, something almost missed and then, somehow, kept.

how a piece is made
Nothing here is rushed
Noticing
Every piece starts with something almost missed — a light, a shape, the mood of an hour. I keep a small notebook of these.
Slow building
Then weeks of layers. I paint thin and wait, paint and wait, until the surface has a weight that feels honest.
Knowing when
The hardest part is stopping. A painting is finished when nothing more asks to be added — and not a brushstroke sooner.
